Started off this morning on 10 m by having a brief and very quick contact with ZD7FT, Peter down there on the St Helena Island. I did a quick comparison between the Sirio Gain Master and the SteppIR and even though the beam move the vertical out of the water, I think I could have worked Peter on the Gain Master but he had quite a few people calling him and I think I would have struggled since signals were dropping.
I was listening to 9M2GET this afternoon but unfortunately his frequency was getting hammered by somebody a few kilohertz away. It turned out to be IW6HIK in Italy who was putting in the biggest signal I have ever seen. He was peaking to nearly 59+60, that's as far as the needle will go on my radio. Somebody did ask him what he was using, however he seemed quite reluctant to divulge the amount of power he was using, all I know is he was using a four element beam. He was asking people if they could record him so he could hear his modulation. I did just that and have posted a video on YouTube, I'm afraid that even though his signal was very impressive, his modulation was extremely poor, not sure whether this was down to him driving everything too hard, but he really was splattering either side of the frequency quite a lot.
And another thing, what is it with all these people who keep self spotting themselves on the cluster? I'm sure that's not what it was designed for.
