I've hardly done any radio work today, however I did manage to get on later this afternoon and there was quite a lot of activity on 10 m, stateside was absolutely booming through, even on my Sirio Gain master vertical. Having said this, they were contest stations so I can only imagine what type of antenna systems they were using. I think it was the ARRL contest where you are only looking for stateside stations. You basically give them your call sign and power and that's it. I don't normally take part in contests but I thought I would have a little bit of fun with my vertical, I managed to work two or three of the US stations with only 20 W from using my President Lincoln 10 m radio, Sirio Gain Master and my recently new purchase, the Turner Super Sidekick (God I love this microphone)
There were some excellent conditions on 10 m, let's hope this is a good sign of things to come.
I then slipped down to 12 m where a US station was absolutely bending my needle. I managed to work three very weak US stations before the band closed down and all I was left with was some old geezer in Paignton, I think his callsign is M0BKL, you may have heard of him, he gets out quite well using his CB antenna :-)
